How Do We Get Ready for May Market?

Since the invasion of the “Jumping Worm” several years ago, we don’t rely on using plants from our gardens any more. Instead, everything starts from seed in clean soil. We are fortunate enough to have several wonderful growers in the local area that provide us with small/healthy plants. We gather up to 3,000 plants!
Once we have brought the “six-packs” back to our staging areas, we up-pot them from their 1 inch seed pods into 4 inch containers allowing for their roots to grow. All of our up-pots are transplanted into clean, wet, and nutritious growing soil. During this process, the plants are kept moist (several times a day) and checked on quite often. We love the fact that each and every individual plant passes through human hands.

Along with the plants and flowers that start at our commercial growers, several members of GCoL also start from seeds. For instance, the photograph shows new plants being started by the LHS Horticulture Class. We enjoy assisting the LHS students in learning about the process by doing.
Some of our members (including the GCoL president) started quite a few themselves. I can attest that many plants have been reared with the care of a “mother hen”. (Yes Peggy, you read that correctly!) 🙂
We welcome you all to visit us at May Market, this year on May 2, 2026. Our booths are traditionally in front of Doctor Jazz’s front doors, at the corner of St Louis Street and Saint Clair street.
We are easy to spot, just look for all the green “Garden Club of Lebanon” aprons.
Thank you for purchasing plants from us. All proceeds from the May Market Plant Sale goes to support GCoL projects year round!
