Mini Park Cleanup Spring 2020

test

Located at 116 West St. Louis Street, our Mini-Park is an oasis in the middle of the brick street. A simple plot of land, but a whole lot going on!

The Garden Club of Lebanon (GCoL) has been involved with providing advice to the City for what should be done and when, as well as talented hands to help do it. Maintenance of the Mini Park is shared between the City’s Streets and Alleys Department, and the Garden Club. Several times a year, GCoL has a “garden party” to go in, deracinate, clean up, and maintain the park.

Members and non-members alike come with shovels, rakes, hedge clippers, gloves, and a determination to keep the Mini Park looking like the oasis that it is.

This session, (June 2, 2020) bushes were cut back (way back), flower beds were “deracinated” (fancy word for pulling unwanted out by their roots), and rock beds were cleaned out.

The amount of work that takes place during one of these gatherings may surprise you.

City crews removed several sections of the rod-iron fencing to provide access to remove the hedges along the fence and around the entryway. While the area was open, additional landscaping (requiring heavy machinery) were removed.

Bushes along the walkway have been cut back. As we continue through Spring, these bushes will leaf-out and present a wonderful display along the walkways.

When you get a chance, come uptown and have a sit on one of the benches, or come to the back of the lot and enjoy the gazebo. We invite you to see and enjoy the surroundings. After all, that is why we do what we do! (And what we would do! 🙂 )
